Gasping Voices is a 30minute video theatre performance about how dancers had to endure lockdowns during a pandemic and the obstacles they had to overcome consequentially. It tells the story of how dance all of sudden became dangerous for our public health and society.
The theatre piece can be divided into four chapters, but at the same time represents one harmonious narrative.
Freya and David assembled five dancers, with urban and classical dance backgrounds, and offer them an opportunity to expose their artistry in a theatre setting. The piece will be shared with a live and online audience.
The dance performance consists of different dance styles such as hiphop, tutting, ragga, tricking, waving, threading, contemporary, partnering, improvisation and ballet. Dance as such.
Jacowbski Invites wants to build a bridge between theater and video or even better; between our everyday reality and the ever increasing and imminent digitization. Gasping Voices preserves and immortalizes the magic of theatre by combining it with the art of video. Additionally, increasing its exposure far beyond limited theatre capacities and potential pandemic restrictions.
Concept and direction by Freya Pauwels.
Video and edit by David Jacobs.
